Memorial Day… Honoring Those Who Sacrificed Their Lives for Our Freedoms

Memorial Day, observed annually in the United States on the last Monday of May, is a time of remembrance and reflection. It is a day dedicated to honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation’s freedoms. These brave individuals have laid down their lives so that we may continue to enjoy the liberties and rights that define our society.

On Memorial Day, when you are with your family or friends enjoying the weekend, remember to pay tribute to the courage and valor of those who have died in the line of duty. Ceremonies are held at cemeteries, monuments, and veterans’ memorials across the nation. Flags are lowered to half-staff, and moments of silence are observed. It is a solemn occasion, marked by deep respect and gratitude for those who have given their lives to protect our freedoms.

One of the most cherished freedoms that these heroes have fought to uphold is the right to live in a free society. This encompasses a wide range of liberties, including freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of the press. These fundamental rights allow us to express our thoughts, gather with others, and stay informed, which are cornerstones of a democratic nation.

Another crucial freedom preserved by the sacrifices of our military is the right to vote. This democratic right empowers citizens to participate in the governance of their country, ensuring that leaders are chosen by the people and for the people. Voting is a powerful tool in shaping the future of our nation, and it stands as a testament to the principles of democracy that our soldiers have defended.

As we observe Memorial Day, it is essential to reflect on the significance of the freedoms we enjoy and the tremendous cost at which they have been secured. The selflessness and bravery of those who have died in service to our country are a profound reminder of the value of liberty and the responsibilities that come with it.

Let us honor their memory not only through ceremonies and tributes but also by exercising the rights they fought to protect. By participating in our democratic processes, advocating for justice, and upholding the principles of freedom, we ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.

Memorial Day serves as a poignant reminder of the bond between the past, present, and future. It is a day to commemorate the fallen, support the living, and cherish the freedoms that define our nation. As we bow our heads in remembrance, let us pledge to honor their legacy by safeguarding the rights and liberties for which they gave their lives.

I wish you all a beautiful Memorial Weekend, God bless America and God bless our Military.

On behalf of The Republican Party of Bexar County, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of you on your remarkable victory in the recent elections. Your unwavering dedication, relentless hard work, and passionate efforts have led to this well-deserved success, and we are incredibly proud of each of you. There were 116,604 ballots cast, representing 9.27% of the registered voters. That percentage must be greatly improved for the Runoff Election if we are to win.

We also want to extend our sincerest gratitude to all the candidates who ran in the elections but did not win. Your contributions to the campaign have been invaluable, and we deeply appreciate your efforts. We are confident that you will support and endorse our candidates as we move forward.

Message From The Chairwoman

Bexar County Republicans!

Happy Spring, Patriots! As we step into 2025, I am energized and inspired by the incredible journey ahead. First, after a landslide election victory in 2024, President Trump in less than 40 days is off to a historic start. The President is in full warp speed of delivering on the promises he made to the American people. The President signed more executive orders on his first day in office than any other president in history. These orders include: securing the border, deporting criminal illegal immigrants, unleashing American prosperity, increase government transparency, and the President has already secured over $1 trillion in historic new investments. He has ensured the elimination of discriminatory DEI practices, and he has reinstituted merit-based hiring in the federal government. Let us not forget the appointment of Elon Musk and creation of D.O.G.E. (Department of Government Efficiency) Also, his Cabinet appointments are all “America First” selections. (You can find Trump’s Cabinet listed directly below my message.)

In January, I had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C. with many San Antonians and thousands of resolute patriots to witness President Trump’s historic inauguration. It was incredible seeing Republicans of all stripes come together to celebrate such a momentous occasion. It was a powerful reminder that when Republicans stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

On January 14th, the 89th Texas Legislative Session convened. I had the honor to attend the Investiture of the Texas State Senators. As the Texas Legislature begins its session, I ask for your prayers for our State Representatives and Senators. These leaders are tasked with solving the largest problems our state faces and will face. May they be guided by wisdom, courage, and a commitment to the principles that make Texas great.

Looking ahead, the Bexar County Republican Party staff and volunteers are working tirelessly as we prepare for the May 3rd elections. We made significant strides in 2024, but our task is far from over. I have made it my mission to ensure the Republican Party of Bexar County supports every Republican candidate and generates voter participation. The party held a successful Mayoral Forum and is preparing to host a City Council candidate Forum. My commitment to have a Republican running in every single race on the ballot came close to fruition, we successfully have 9 out of the 11 races. We will continue to build on our successes and take back our city of San Antonio!

I want to leave you today with a charge. Our party cannot afford to become overconfident after our victories in 2024; however, if we can maximize the enthusiasm of the November voter turnout, we have an opportunity to win some of these local races. If you wish to get involved, please call the office at 210.824.9445, and ask for the contact details of your Precinct Chair, RPBC’s Campaign Activities Chair or RPBC’s Volunteer Coordinator to get engaged. If your precinct is vacant, consider running! This is how we will win, with more “boots on the ground.”

God bless each of you and God bless Texas.

Kris Coons, County Chairwoman

A Path Forward for Texas Leadership

This past November, Bexar County led Texas in wins for Republicans. We flipped the Fourth Court of Appeals and won Texas’ two most competitive House races, securing a strong majority in the Texas House. These wins were not by accident. They were the result of the tireless work of a unified and cohesive Republican Party of Bexar County.

As county chair, my chief goal remains securing further conservative wins in Bexar County as we shift our focus to the upcoming legislative session, municipal and school board elections in May, and laying the groundwork to recruit great candidates for 2026 and 2028.

It is in that vein that I share in my fellow county chairs’ call for party unity. We are the party of law and order, and I have deep respect for the rules and processes of the Texas House Republican Caucus. Representative David Cook prevailed in that process, and I offer my support and congratulations. This decision was made through an election process that highlighted the passion, dedication, and diversity of thought within our ranks—a true reflection of what makes our party strong.

While differences of opinion are natural and even necessary for a healthy democracy, it is our shared commitment to conservative principles and the future of Texas that unites us. As Republicans, our priority is clear: electing leaders who represent our values and building a strong, united party that can collaborate to make those values a reality.

Each county chair bears the burden of helping hold our elected officials accountable. In Bexar County, we have done just that. I am proud that all three Republican representatives from Bexar County have pledged to honor the outcome of the caucus vote, as I believe is their will of their constituents. Our Bexar County house is in order!

I know my fellow county chairs are working hard to encourage our Republican legislators to ensure the success of our Legislative Priorities in the upcoming session, and I leave it to their good offices to decide the best way to achieve that goal. I am confident the Republican Party of Bexar County is in lockstep with that effort, and we look forward to doing everything we can to help our Legislature have a history-making session for conservative causes and values.

Here in Bexar County, we have a critical role to play in this mission. With nearly two million voices, we represent a vibrant and diverse community that stands to benefit from the successes of a united Republican Party. Let us use this opportunity to come together, support one another, and focus on the work ahead with enthusiasm and purpose.

Thank you for your dedication to our shared vision. Together, we will ensure a stronger Texas for generations to come.

Respectfully,

Kris Coons
Chairwoman, Republican Party of Bexar County

Trump American Wave

A Word From Your Chairman

Dear Friends and Fellow Patriots,

What an exciting night for Bexar County, Texas, and our country! Everyone stepped up and made this an election to remember: 759,397 people voted, 58.60% of registered voters. At the RPBC Watch Party, we watched with anticipation the election results as each state on the map was turning RED and the electoral votes kept adding up. Finally, reaching that magical number of 270, Donald J. Trump became the next President of the United States!

However, the excitement does not end there, I am thrilled to share our success stories from Bexar County: because of your dedication and hard work, we held every incumbent’s seat:

  • Senator Ted Cruz
  • Congressman Chip Roy
  • Congressman Tony Gonzales
  • State Senator Donna Campbell
  • Representative John Lujan, D118
  • Representative Mark LaHood, D121
  • Representative Mark Dorazio, D122

Even with the above successes, the wins of our Justices for the 4th Court of Appeals are truly a highlight of the evening. All four candidates are from Bexar County, but their district encompasses 32 counties, and this is a 6-year term. This huge victory is a result of a shared belief of the importance of the rule of law. People are tired of Judges not doing their jobs and being soft on crime due to political bias.

  • Todd McCray, Justice 4th Court of Appeals District, Place 3
  • Lori Massey Brissette, Justice, 4th Court of Appeals, Place 4
  • Adrian Spears, Justice, 4th Court of Appeals, Place 5
  • Lori Valenzuela, Justice, 4th Court of Appeals, Place 7

For those candidates who ran and did not win; running for office takes courage, sacrifice and is a noble commitment. Please do not see it as a loss, but a small roadblock in your path to greater achievements in your political life. Thank you all for representing the Party and for your hard work and efforts.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who dedicated so much of their time and treasure to this election. Our Election Judges, Clerks, and Poll Greeters managed everything skillfully and efficiently. The Poll Watchers, most often, were well-received. RPBC, the candidate campaigns and all volunteers were engaged in the process of getting out the vote. Block walking, phone banking and the countless volunteers behind the scenes making sure everything was running smoothly, which made this election a success. Thank you, Bexar County Republicans!

Now, incredibly, we have even more to do after this election. My first 121 days as your Chairwoman have been exciting and rewarding and we have plans for The Republican Party of Bexar County. We must gear up and “fight fight fight” for the betterment of our county, state, and country.!

Let’s organize, prepare, and get ready for the next election cycle and make Bexar County RED!

With Appreciation and Gratefulness,
Kris Coons
